Would you be happy with your choices?

Not long ago I had a profound and moving dream experience. In the dream, I knew that the next day I was planned for execution. Knowing that it was my last full day on Earth, I spent it with my partner, the Love of my life, making things right with my friends, family and associates. Pretty much anyone I have ever had bitterness with I could get in touch with. Telling loved ones that I love them. My Love and I had fun and good times. We created happy memories. I remember also giving away a lot of my money in the dream.

When I woke up, I recalled the whole thing, and started uncontrollably crying. Yes, men do cry. My Love was still sleeping in the bed, but I could not stop crying. I allowed myself to let it out, as I knew that it would not be healthy to contain so much emotion and energy. Trying not to wake up my Love, I continued crying as I processed what it felt like, to really know that it would be my last day to live on Earth.

Going through such a powerful experience changes your outlook on life. Something, needed me to open up and change my ways to let more light in. At first, I did not know who to go to talk about that dream experience. I, at that time, had not heard anyone else talking about experiencing knowing it was their last day on earth. Not happy sane people anyway.

As the universe likes to synchronize like experiences, not long after that I found a video with Gregg Braden being interviewed. In it he described a near death experience he had as a child which left him with a guiding question that would become relevant later in his life. The question is, “If I were to die tomorrow, would I be happy with the life I have lived?” The answer at that time for him was an immediate “NO.” To this day that is a question he asks himself regularly, and listens within for an answer.

A rock band that has brought this question into the media, although not so philosophical, is Nickelback. In one of their newer albums a song is titled “If Today Was Your Last Day” and the lyrics bring up some valuable points on this perspective.

Some impactful question you may benefit from asking yourself are:

If I were to die tomorrow, would I be happy with the choices I have made?

If I were to die tomorrow, would my purpose be fulfilled? Have I lived a fulfilling life?

If I were to die tomorrow, would I be happy with my relations?

If I were to die tomorrow, would I have any regrets?

If I were to die tomorrow, would I want to come back to finish unfinished business?

Did you get a “Yes” for any of these? If so, you are among the happiest and most blessed people in the world. You have lived a way of life that is beautiful and worth teaching to others.

If you answered “No” to at least one of these questions, or something other than “Yes,” you are very average. But do not be discouraged, there is great value in the answer you got. it gives you starting point to proceed from. You always have a choice, regardless of your situation. Asking yourself any or all of he above questions may be a beneficial practice to getting closer to a “YES!”

What are you passionate about? What motivates you? What do you really desire to do in this life? What are you waiting for?
